The night is like a huge piece of black silk, gently and irresistibly wrapping the world layer by layer.
In the silence, Feng Chenning closed his eyes tiredly, and his consciousness seemed to fall into a soft, chaotic tunnel.
She was dreaming about Le Chengrou.
At first, the dream was hazy and chaotic. Feng Chenning only felt that he was in a thick fog. Every step he took was pulled by the soft but stubborn fog at his ankles.
Just when I was filled with confusion, a clear and hearty laugh pierced through the fog.
Feng Chenning's heart warmed up and he ran towards the sound. The surrounding scenery quickly receded and reorganized like the tide.
In the blink of an eye, she was standing on a dusty country road.
The sun shines brightly, pouring warmly on the winding bluestone road in the town. The old locust trees on both sides of the road stretch out their lush branches and leaves, and mottled light and shadows dance among them.
Feng Chenning immediately saw her good friend Le Chengrou, who was smiling brightly beside her. A few strands of her hair were lifted by the wind and brushed against her cheek playfully.
A breeze blew by, the hem of her skirt fluttered, and the light blue bow in her hair fluttered in the air.
She was still as lively as ever, with curved eyebrows and eyes. She reached out and pulled Feng Chenning hard, her voice as clear as a silver bell: "Let's go, don't dawdle!"
Feng Chen Ning held the warm hand, intertwining their fingertips, and the rubbing of their palms conveyed a reassuring warmth, and the two of them ran away.
The days that followed seemed like hiding in a paradise.
In the lazy afternoon, I lay on the grass in front of the cabin, looking at the blue sky and talking, imagining the peaceful life in the future.
But the tone of the dream suddenly changed, dark clouds rolled in, and it seemed as if the previous brightness had never existed.
The night was as dark as ink, so thick that it could not be dissolved. The dark clouds tightly blocked the moonlight, and only a few faint starlights twinkled in the gaps between the clouds.
The wind was roaring through the narrow and deep alleys, making a shrill sound like the howling of an evil ghost, and blowing up the dead and yellow leaves scattered on the ground, making a rustling sound.
The reason why Feng Chenning left Le Chengrou was actually very simple. It was simply because that group of people found her again.
Her face was covered in blood, her hair was messy and stuck to her cheeks, and sweat mixed with blood kept dripping down her chin, splashing onto the ground beneath her feet that had already turned dark red.
Her body was shaking but she stood upright like a pine tree. The long sword in her hand was vibrating and there were cracks and mottled marks on the sword, all of which were traces of the tragic battle. She looked embarrassed but revealed a resolute and ruthless spirit.
His pair of peach blossom eyes were burning with rage as he stared at several men in black not far ahead.
They had ghostly figures, and their tight black clothes blended into the night. Only the sharp blades in their hands flashed coldly, revealing their cold murderous intent.
Beside him, his good friend Le Chengrou was leaning against the mottled wall, his face as pale as paper. His eyes, which were usually bright and lively, were now dull and lifeless, and his lips were colorless with a few traces of blood.
Her clothes were cut open on her abdomen by a sharp blade, the wound was deep enough to see the bone, her flesh was turned inside out, and blood was gushing out. She covered the wound with her hands weakly, but could not stop the red liquid from gushing out.
Blood continued to seep out from between the fingers, gathering into a pool of blood, which was shocking in the dim light.
After a fierce fight, Feng Chenning dragged his injured and unconscious friend Le Chengrou and ran for his life in this maze-like alley.
Bright red blood continued to seep out from Le Chengrou's abdomen, staining a large area of her clothes red. Drops of blood fell on the muddy ground, like shocking withered flowers.
Feng Chenning's arms had already been stained with Le Chengrou's blood, but she was unaware of it. Her hands held Le Chengrou tightly like iron clamps, and she staggered but did not dare to stop for a moment.
Behind him, a group of mysterious men in black dressed in night clothes were chasing him like ghosts. They were agile, climbing over walls and tiles. The sound of their fluttering clothes and their hurried footsteps were intertwined, which was particularly eerie and terrifying in the silent night.
Between life and death, Feng Chenning cannot afford to be weak in the slightest.
She gritted her teeth, endured the severe pain, and dragged Le Chengrou into a more hidden alley.
Leaning against the mottled and dilapidated wall, she breathed heavily and listened to the footsteps of the man in black gradually fading away.
Looking up at Le Chengrou who was dying in his arms, Feng Chenning felt as if his heart was being cut by a knife, and all those beautiful memories of the past flashed before his eyes like a kaleidoscope.
With trembling hands, she tried to stop Le Chengrou's bleeding with the torn cloth, but the cloth was instantly soaked with blood. The warm and sticky touch flowed down her fingertips like boiling magma, burning her heart with sorrow.
"Chen Ning... leave me alone... go away..."
Le Chengrou woke up slowly at some point and uttered these words in a weak voice, her eyes full of determination and earnestness.
Feng Chenning shook her head desperately, tears welling up in her eyes and falling on Le Chengrou's face: "No, I will never abandon you, let's go together."
Le Chengrou tried hard to force a smile, but it was uglier than crying. Just as she was about to open her mouth to say something, she was interrupted by a violent cough. Bright red blood slowly seeped out from the corner of her mouth, which was shocking.
Le Chengrou raised her hand with great effort and weakly grasped Feng Chenning's wrist. The remaining warmth in her hand seemed to be her last bit of strength: "They are targeting you... I will only be a burden to you. If you also die here, everything will be over... Promise me, stay alive."
How could Feng Chenning not know? Today, this wave of men in black came without any warning, and every move was deadly, clearly intending to kill them all.
The last time they were surrounded by men in black, they managed to escape without any danger. But now, Le Chengrou was in danger, and they were badly injured and had no strength to fight again.
In order to protect her, Le Chengrou blocked the fatal blow. The sound of the sharp blade entering the flesh still echoes in Feng Chenning's ears, cutting her heart.
Feng Chenning looked at Le Chengrou, tears rolling down her pale cheeks.
She leaned over, gently rested her forehead against Le Chengrou's, and murmured, "Chengrou, hold on, I'll come back to find you."
After saying this, she gritted her teeth and stood up resolutely.
"Chen Ning..." Le Chengrou uttered her name with difficulty, raised her hand to grab the corner of her clothes, but dropped it halfway due to weakness.
Feng Chenning paused and did not look back, fearing that his army would be defeated if he did.
The moment she stepped out of the temple, tears welled up in her eyes. She raised her hand to wipe them away, tightly grasped the dagger at her waist, and ran towards the direction of the sound of horse hooves.
The sound of horse hooves was getting closer, and the figure of a man in black appeared in front of him. Feng Chenning gritted his teeth and deliberately made a noise to lure him to chase after him.
Then Feng Chenning disappeared into the mountains and forests, her figure gradually faded away. The road ahead was vast, with only the sound of the wind as her companion. It was as if fate was silently urging her to rush into the unknown and endure the suffering alone, just to exchange for her friend's peace for the rest of his life.
"Cheng Rou——!"
Feng Chenning suddenly sat up from the bed, sweating profusely, gasping for breath, her tears soaking the pillowcase, her eyes still showing the panic and grief from the dream.
After a long while, when her emotions had calmed down a little, Feng Chenning looked out the window.
Outside the window, the morning light shone through the gaps in the curtains. She was stunned for a long time, raised her hand and slowly wiped away her tears, feeling empty in her heart.
The pain in the dream was like a sharp thorn, piercing deep into the soul and lingering for a long time.
And Le Chengrou has really left.
The hot tears welled up in my eyes again.
