The haze hung heavily over the cemetery. The lead-gray clouds seemed to be filled with endless sorrow. The white building of the funeral home looked even colder and more solemn in this gloomy sky.
Rong Yunqiu was wearing a dark black suit. He walked through the cold door with heavy steps to see his friend Lin Yu's grandmother off for the last time.
Inside the mourning hall, white flowers were clustered and elegiac couplets hung low.
There were low sobbing sounds all around. Relatives and friends, dressed in plain black clothes, either bowed their heads in silence or whispered to comfort each other. The elegiac couplets on the wreaths rustled in the breeze, weaving a dense web of sorrow.
The funeral ceremony proceeded as planned. The pastor read the eulogy, and his solemn voice floated in the air.
As the ceremony was coming to an end, the crowd dispersed a little and Rong Yunqi was moving among the crowd of people who came to pay their respects. He looked up inadvertently and his gaze was fixed on a simple shadow.
It was a woman in a black dress, like an inky silhouette from old times.
She was wearing a black knee-length dress, the slim fit flowing down her slender waist, the hem flaring out slightly like quiet ripples.
The neckline is trimmed with lace of the same color, and the delicate pattern lightly covers her fair neck. A small pearl pin on the collarbone sparkles faintly.
Her hair was tied up loosely, with a few strands falling around her fair neck, like an impressionistic ink painting, adding a touch of charming charm.
What is most eye-catching is the unique "bright color" on the neck.
A plain white silk scarf was carefully folded into the shape of a flower and pinned to the side of her neck. The soft folds of the scarf were like the natural stretching of petals. A pearl was quietly inlaid in the pistil. Its luster was set off by the black skirt, like a condensed teardrop, pure and sad.
The woman held a bunch of white daisies in her hands. The petals trembled slightly, reflecting her slightly red eyes and nose. It was obvious that she had just shed tears.
Perhaps feeling Rong Yunqiu's gaze, the woman slightly turned sideways and raised her eyes, and their gazes briefly met his.
At that moment, their eyes met, and the noise around them seemed to be muted.
He looked deep into her eyes, where there was sadness, tenderness, and a hint of alienation that he could not understand, as if separated by a layer of hazy mist.
But he knew that he had found the soul fragment in this small world - Feng Chenning.
Feng Chenning only glanced at him, then quickly turned her head away and looked back at the tombstone.
Rong Yunqiu was staring in a trance until his friend Lin Yu came over, patted him on the shoulder and whispered a few words, then he came to his senses. When he looked again, Feng Chenning had blended into the crowd, leaving only a blurry silhouette.
Rong Yunluo patted his friend's shoulder and said, "I hope you can hold on to this matter. If your grandmother knew about this, she would also hope that you would live a good life."
Lin Yu was quietly packing up the sacrificial supplies that had been left behind. When he heard this, his eyes welled up and his voice was still choked with sobs. "Well, I know. It's all thanks to you guys who accompanied me."
Rong Yunqi nodded slightly, glanced around, hesitated for a moment, and then casually got to the point:
"By the way, I just saw a girl at the funeral. She was wearing a black dress and had a white flower around her neck. Is she someone you know?"
Lin Yu was stunned for a moment, and thought for a while, "You are talking about Miss Feng, right? She is the granddaughter of grandma's good friend."
"She is a very nice person, kind-hearted, gentle, and thorough. She was also in charge of the funeral."
The breeze blew a few strands of hair on his forehead. Rong Yunqi smiled faintly, "Hearing you say that, you are really a rare caring person. What does she do?"
He asked again casually, tapping the back of the chair beside him with his fingers, making a rhythmic tapping sound, trying to cover up the growing curiosity in his heart.
Lin Yu shook her head. "I don't know. She said she'll leave tomorrow."
"understood."
